Basics of Animation

Carine Zaayman
Basics of animation – Stop frame and flip book.

Participants in this workshop will be introduced to the basics of stop-frame animation through the technique of the flip-book. While much contemporary animation uses a computer at some stage of the production, the use of hand drawn, or handmade elements is still a popular and expressive method. The workshop will show a number of examples of creative and imaginative work being done in the field of stop frame animation, and participants will then be encouraged to explore their own short animation in the form of a flip-book. The aim of the workshop is to complete, or make progress with a flip book that functions as a hand-drawn and animation on paper.

Requirements:
Materials and tools:
Any reference material in the form of photos, videos, or other work that could be utilised for the creation of the flip book. Pen, ink, or any other permanent drawing material. Gouache can also be utilised.
